The Sikh community in partnership with Colourful Heritage and Edinburgh Interfaith Association (EIFA) would like to invite you to an event ‘Remembering the Forgotten Army of South Asia’ for the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Japan Day.
Thousands of British Indian Army soldiers from pre-partition India from the Sikh, Muslim and Hindu communities fought to help Britain and secure victory in Japan. 2025 marks 80 years since the end of World War II in 1945 in Burma with VJ Day 80 commemorated on 15th Aug 2025. As the fighting ended in Europe, Allied troops in the east were still engaged in fierce warfare. Burma (Myanmar) was liberated by the 14th Army, the principle British fighting force in the east. It was composed of troops mostly from the Indian Army, plus African, British and Gurkha units. They fought to protect Britain and yet have been forgotten. We hope you will be able to join us to remember their huge contribution in both World Wars.
